WINES
We are a proud distributor for the exquisite Boplaas and Muratie Wine Estates, located in Calitzdorp & Stellenbosch respectivly. With enormous amounts of history and a great emphasis on family traditions, these two wineries make an exquisite selection of wine and ports.
Boplaas Stoepsit Sauvignon Blanc 2019
Fresh fruit flavours of lime and lemongrass on the nose. Lovely tangy lime-flavours with good weight and a crisp dry finish on the pallet.
Muratie Melck’s Sauvignon Blanc 2019
Conceived as a partner to the to the Muratie Melck’s Red, this crisp, refreshing and accessible wine is light but not lightweight. It has a peachy perfume leading to a fruit salad of flavours, from green apple and lime to tropical guava and pineapple. Dry and zesty with a clean, persistent, mineral finish.
Boplaas Pinot Noir Blanc de Noir 2018
A delightful rosebud pink colour Blanc de Noir. Fresh fruit flavours of strawberry and cherries on the nose. This is a refreshing and fruity wine, with good weight and length on the pallet.
Muratie Isabella Chardonnay 2018
In this fresh and elegant wine with its peach-blossom fragrance, the aim is to evoke those bedtime butterfly kisses of their beautiful baby girl, so the oaking (10 months in this case) is subtle, serving only to spice the stone fruit, melon and citrus flavours with hints of hazelnuts and vanilla cream. It’s beautifully delicate and understated, with a pure, slightly piquant and lingering ‘mineral’ finish promising great charm well beyond the toddler years.
Boplass Pinot Noir Brut Sparkling 2018
A blushing cherry-pink coloured wine with a bouquet abounding with fresh strawberry, sweet raspberry, red cherry aromas and a hint of spice, which follow through on the crisp and refreshing palate with its fine, yet persistent bubble.
Muratie Johanna Dry Pinot Noir Rosé 2019
This tantalizing wine starts with a melange of tropical fruits on the nose, followed by tart pomegranate ruby flavours and cranberries on the palate. With its lingering crisp, dry finish this wine is synonymous with warm summer days and leisurely relaxation.
Boplaas Chardonnay Unwooded 2018
Complex, fruity, fresh and balanced wine, with citrus notes of lime, lemon and orange rind. This unwooded and expressive Chardonnay is best accompanied with grilled pork chops with sage and fresh baby potatoes and obligatory garden salad with balsamic & lime dressing.
Muratie Laurens Campher 2018
For all its freshness, elegance and focus, the wine’s flavours are complex and intense, ranging from bright lemon, fresh pineapple and juicy nectarine to more concentrated lime marmalade as well as caramel and cream (from barrel fermentation and 11 months of maturation in mostly older French oak). The initial impression is floral (heady honeysuckle) but the finish is spicy (there’s even a pinch of white pepper), with great persistence promising enjoyment over at least five years.
Cabernet Sauvignon 2017
This accessible, medium bodied Cabernet Sauvignon showcases the varietals classic aromatics with red and black currant, tart raspberry, bright yet subtle spice and under currents of fynbos, dried herbs and touches of sweet vanilla. Claret styled with moderate alcohol levels and deserving of a further year or two cellaring.
Muratie George Paul Canitz Pinot Noir 2017
For all its freshness, elegance and focus, the wine’s flavours are complex and intense, ranging from bright lemon, fresh pineapple and juicy nectarine to more concentrated lime marmalade as well as caramel and cream (from barrel fermentation and 11 months of maturation in mostly older French oak). The initial impression is floral (heady honeysuckle) but the finish is spicy (there’s even a pinch of white pepper), with great persistence promising enjoyment over at least five years.
Boplaas Methode cap Classique Pinot Noir Brut 2014
A bouquet abounding with heady brioche, strawberry, black cherry, lemon and tangerine aromas. Briouche, lemon curd, ripe black cherry and a savoury twang combine on the complex and rich palate. The mousse (bubble) is persistent, while the vein of acidity enlivens the palate and creates a refreshingly dry finish.
Muratie Martin Melck Cabernet Sauvignon Family Reserve 2015
In certain years, certain barrels of Muratie’s Simonsberg Stellenbosch Cabernet Sauvignon is so exceptional in terms of their fruit intensity, structure and balance that they deserve to be held back and bottled separately. In this full-bodied, opulent wine, the blackberries, currants, and plums are almost Crèmede Cassis-like in their concentration; the oak integration seamless while imparting an exotic spice perfume. A wine to cellar for at least five years before savouring slowly.
Boplaas Merlot 2018
This fruit forward, medium bodied Merlot greats the taster with ripe plum, bright red cherry, hints of bramble jam, subtle spice, vanilla and an undercurrent of fynbos – while the soft tannins and mild acidity make for an appealing glass of honest red wine.
Muratie Melck’s Blended Red 2016
Where most of the wines in the portfolio are special occasion wines, this medium-bodied blend is intended for everyday enjoyment. However, it too is sourced entirely from the estate, and while unpretentious it is well-crafted with its soft tannins, juicy black fruit and hints of warm spice and chocolate from careful wooding.
Boplaas Cape Vintage Reserve Port 2006
Boplaas’s signature blend of the Portuguese varietals. Darker than a moonless Karoo night, with a tinge of bright purple at the rim. Freshly tilled red earth, ripe apricots, fynbos, pepper and a hint of spirit on the bouquet. Good tannins with hints of fresh plum, sweet apricots, loads of liquorice and fynbos dominate the superbly structured palate. This Cape Vintage Reserve is the culmination of more than a quarter century’s Port making effort of the Nel family to create an almost flawless Cape Port that will age for more than four decades or so, if stored optimally. In a word sensational.
Muratie Ansela van de Caab 2016
Rich and velvety, this is a tightly knit wine built to last yet accessible now thanks to its well-rounded tannins. Concentrated dark fruits (blackcurrants, cassis) are lifted by a slight tealeaf herbaceousness and plenty of wood spice (sandalwood, cigar box, graphite). There are also some savoury hints of olive tapenade, particularly on the lingering finish, which combined with fresh acid balance suggest improvement in bottle for at least a decade.
Boplaas Pinotage 2018
Bouquet is loaded with aromas of strawberry, mulberry bouquet with hint of cocoa, palate packed with juicy red fruits, hints of strawberry jam and earthy undertones. Wine shows complexity and balance.
Muratie Ronnie Melck Shiraz 2016
A polished wine, from its silky tannins to its dark wood spice, it oozes black plum and mulberry fruit that is succulent without being jammy. There are violets on the nose, dark chocolate too, but lasting impressions are of pleasingly savoury, from black pepper to smoked meats. Soft and voluptuous enough to be enjoyed on release, it has the structure to start reaching its full potential after about five years
GINS AND WHISKIES
Boplaas 8 Citrus Gin
Lustrous and clear, Boplaas Eight Citrus Gin leads with a potent, fresh and distinctly floral punch of juniper on a multi-layered and definitive backdrop of citrus on the nose. The aromatic tapestry displays balance and unison that is echoed on a bold palate that displays the unmistakable warm bite of citrus zest. The flavour edge is bordered by fruit sweetness of tangerine and lime, and earthiness of blood orange. Each sip tapers into a lingering of orange and lemon peel, enticing another round.
Boplaas Cape Pink Gin
Boplaas Port-infused Gin stands out with the alluring King Protea combination of pink and silver flashes. Its juniper core leads on the nose, accompanied by notes of ripe red berries, rose petals, sprightly orange zest and a tinge of star anise complexity. The aromas linger through to the palate, providing a lively, dry and satisfying finish.
Boplaas Single Grain Whisky (Brandy cask finish)
On the palate, the whisky is smooth and luxurious with a sweetness that evolves into a mouth-warming sense of buttery toast and dried fruit. Its finish is dry with a gentle lingering note of oak sawdust.
Boplaas 6 Year Single Grain Whisky (Tawny Port Cask finish)
This is a whisky for savouring. The multi-layered nose shows a fruitcake nose tinged with winter spices, most notably cloves and cardamom, and highlights of cocoa bean, desiccated figs, rich apricots and raisins. Tawny character blooms on the palate – it’s bold, rounded and viscous, with a pleasant balance of yellow-fruit sweetness and oak spice that lingers.
